The international conference investigates the history of informal work in all parts of Europe throughout the period from about 1870 to 1970. It will take place at the University of Bern, Switzerland, 31 August to 2 September 2023 and is organised by Sibylle Marti/University of Bern, Christof Dejung/ University of Bern, and Susan Zimmermann/Central European University.

The Institute of Rural History will be represented by Jessica Richter, who will talk about “Distinguishing Workers, Establishing Hierarchies. Categorizing Farm and other Workers in Disputes over Social Rights (Austria, 1920-1938)”.
